Stop Believing These "Hair Myths" Right Now!

Myth #1

Brush 100 strokes a day for Healthy Hair.

Brushing is a form of friction that, if done to excess will damage hair, especially thin, weak hair. Brushing gently for a few strokes and briefly to stimulate scalp circulation and help distribute natural oils from roots to tips is the right way. Start from the end and work your way from roots with a wooden comb.

Myth #2

If you Pluck one Gray Hair, more will grow in its place.

There's no merit for plucking grey hair and two growing back, as each strand is only attached to one hair follicle. Grey or white hair s occurs when the pigment in the follicle dies and plucking grey hair can actually cause damage to the hair follicle which may stunt or hinder any hair growth.

Myth #3

Hair Loss Runs on your Mother's Side.

One of the biggest hair myths I've heard during all my years is that your mother's father has an influence on your hair loss. That is completely untrue. The genealogy of your hair comes half from your mother and half from your father.

Myth #4

Splits Ends can be Repaired.

Despite what some products advertise, splits ends cannot be stuck. A split or damaged end occurs when the protective outer layer (cuticle) of the hair is damaged, so there really is no way to reseal or close it. A conditioner or serum is the answer to prevent them, the only way to get rid of split ends is to chop.

Myth #5

Frequent Trims can grow Hair Longer & Faster.

Hair growth happens at the scalp. The frequency of trims has nothing to do with how fast or slow your hair Will grow. The reason why you've heard this tip so much is that regular trims prevent split ends and breakage, the punishment who is trying to go long. Ask your stylist for a light 'dusting' every eight to 12weeks.

Myth #6

Do not Condition if you have Oily Hair.

A big fat false. Greasy hair is not caused by conditioning your hair, instead, it is naturally caused by too much sebum being produced from the tissues of the scalp. For greasy hair, use a clarifying shampoo and only use conditioner on your ends.

Myth #7

Using the same Shampoo for Years will eventually stop working.

Like a relationship, date until you find the right one. Shampoo will cleanse the same, even if you use it every day for years. If you find a shampoo and conditioner that makes your hair feel fantastic, you do not have to change it but don't be afraid to switch it up. There are so many products out there, offering greener/safer ingredients.
