10 Common Myths About BOTOX®️
There are many common myths out there concerning BOTOX®️ and its uses. Here are some of the most common myths that we hear from patients, and the truth behind them.
1. Botox is Toxic and nobody knows its long-term effects
FACT: Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it’s largely inactive. It has been used since the 1980’s so we do know a lot about it.
2. Botox will give me a “Frozen” or Expressionless look
FACT: A “frozen” look usually is a result of overdosage. An experienced injector would know how many units to inject to get the desired effect but also look natural.
3. Botox can erase all my Wrinkles
FACT: There are 2 types of wrinkles: dynamic & static. Dynamic wrinkles are present with facial movements, static wrinkles are there at rest. While Botox can help improve both kinds of wrinkles, static wrinkles may need additional treatments, such as fillers or lasers.
4. If you stop doing Botox, the wrinkles will get worse
FACT: If you decide to stop using Botox, the wrinkles will gradually return with repetitive movements. Botox will not worsen them.
5. Botox Injections are Painful
FACT: This is not a painful procedure.
6. Once you start, you can’t stop
FACT: There are no addictive properties to Botox. People keep doing it because it makes them look younger and fresher (and therefore feel good).
7. Botox will affect my body
FACT: Botox only works on the muscles where it’s injected. It cannot spread to distant areas.
8. Botox is Permanent
FACT: It lasts 3-4 months.
9. Botox is only used to treat Wrinkles
FACT: Botox is used for many medical purposes, such as muscle spasms and migraines.
10. Botox and Fillers are the same things
FACT: Botox and dermal fillers are totally different substances but can be used together (or separately) to treat age-related problems.
